Tracking the Tiger

Take a flight to Jabalpur or Nagpur and proceed to Kanha. The lush sal and bamboo forests make a great abode for the mystical tiger. Infact the forests of Kanha inspired Rudyard Kipling when he wrote The Jungle Book. Stay at a jungle lodge for three nights.

Kanha has beautiful grassy meadows, huge ravines intermingled with bamboo forests. It is renowned for tigers, deers, antelopes, gaurs, hyenas, bears and leopards. Enjoy agame drivetwice a day and try to spot some of these wild beasts (morning and evening safaris).

Head towards Bandhavgarh and spend the evening wandering around in the neighbouring villages and relishing the local life.

Bandhavgarh Park was always a Shikargarh (game preserve) for the Maharajas of Rewa. Immerse in the lush greenery of the forested regions that are the natural abode of many species of animals. It has a high density of Royal Bengal tigers, as well as leopards, deers (Sambar and cheetal), butterflies and bird. You can enjoy two game drives on the day of your arrival. Spend some time at the Bhandavgarh Fort.

Enjoy another game drive in Bandhavgarh in the morning before you proceed to Khajuraho.

The small village of Khajuraho famous all over the world for its temples, beautifully adorned erotic sculptures. Spend the morning appreciating the unique architecture and statues in the temple that were carved a thousand years ago. In the evening take a train to Agra.

Enjoy a full day of sightseeing. Start with the Agra Red Fort and nearby Sikandra. Later spend some time admiring the majestic Taj Mahal until sunset.

Head out to Fatehpur Sikri city and stop at Keoladeo Ghana Park, a bird sanctuary in Bharatpur and home to beautiful migratory birds in winters. Proceed ahead to Ranthambhore and spend three nights in a hotel.

Ranthambhore has always been the hunting game preserve of the Maharajahs of Jaipur. Nestled between Banas and Chambal rivers it’s a fine mix of dry deciduous forests and several lakes. You can spot the majestic tiger and dainty deer (cheetal and sambar), wild boar, nilgai (antelope), hyena, birds and reptiles. Have fun in two Jungle safaris (morning and evening).

Enjoy an early morning safari in Ranthambore Park and spend an afternoon visting the ruins of Ranthambore Fort.

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan gets its name the “Pink City” from the color of its palaces, havelis and forts that are built in pink sandstone. Jaipur which means “the city of the victory” was built in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh-II, in compliance with the “Shilpa Shastra”, aformal treaty on Hindu architecture. Surrounded by steep hills on three sides, the entire city gives the feeling of a walled enclosure, guarded by seven gates. Visit all the palaces in the city and get immersed in the history of this enthralling city. Visit the local markets to enjoy the vibrancy and flamboyancy of the colourful state of Rajasthan.

Head to Amber, the capital of the former State calledRajputana – Fortified lair of the Empire of the Mughals. Start your trip with a visit to the Fort of Amber. Nestled amongst three fortresses, Amber had the perfect setting to protect it against enemies. At the lowest level is the fort itself which housed the apartments of the Maharaja and its many women and concubines. A little above, connected by a network of fortified corridors and secret passages, lies the fortress, which housed the soldiers of the Prince.

Climb up the Amber Fort on the back of an elephant to feel the aura of the bygone era. You must also visit the temple dedicated to the goddess Kali and the other royal buildings.

Transfer to Jaipur or Delhi airport. Take a connecting flight to your onward destination.
