Moonland Road Trip in Ladakh

Take a morning flight to Leh. Take two days to acclimitise to an altitude of 3,500 m / 11,500 ft. Start the trip with a visit to the Shanti Stupa overlooking the Indus Valley.

Make a day trip to the Indus Valley and appreciate the Palace in Shey; ancient capital of the Ladakhi Kingdom. Spend time at some of the influential monasteries (gompas) of Matho, Thiksey and Hemis. Spend the night in Leh.

Drive along the Indus River towards Lamayuru, one of the Ladakh’s oldest shrines. Visit theGompa and spend time relishing the art and culture. Admire the stunning geological formation called Moonland as it looks akin to the Moon terrain.

Drive to Alchi and visit the 11th century temples that are adorned with Kashmiri art before Tibetan Art was introduced in Ladakh.

Drive back to Leh and on the way stop at Likir Gompa, Basgo village and Phyang and Spitok Monasteries to understand the lives of the locals and appreciate their place of worship.

Drive North towards Nubra Valley and cross the Khardhung-la pass at an altitude of 5600 m / 18,380 ft. Enjoy a breathtaking view of Zanskar, Ladakh and the Karakoram ranges, a once in a lifetime experience. Spend the night at a home stay or in a tent.

Spend the entire day exploring Nubra Valley that lies in the mythical Silk Route. Also, visit Diskit Monastery and Hunder sand dunes, unique in every way. If time permits, proceed to visit the hot springs in Panamik..

Drive back to Leh and explore the local markets and shop for souvenirs.

Early morning take a day trip to Pongong Tso Lake, crossing a pass at an elevation of 5,450 m / 17,880 ft. There is no better sight in Leh than the azure blue waters of the lake. The bright blue lake stretches for more that 100 km / 62 mi. Spend some quiet time there before you get back to Leh.

Take a flight to Delhi and onwards.
